E.V. - FORUM BONSAI LODI - STEFANO DEFRAIA - TECHNIQUE OF GRAFT OF A VEIN ALIVE PERFORMED ON OLEA EUOPAEA - PART TWO

BACK TO THE FIRST PART

GRAFT VEIN  ON OLEA EUOPAEA
by STEFANO DEFRAIA

I own an olive from the twisted trunk, with two veins active, who have no desire to issue gems.
It insists instead to generate suckers at the base, which continue to eliminate.
I can not perform a graft through hole, because the plant, between the two living veins, presents a dry part, therefore, the grafted branch not would weld in the two sides, leaving the hole open on one side.

So I decided to graft a sucker along the edge of the vein alive, that if "attack" will make it active again; .. Then I can remove the sucker from the base, leaving him stuck along the vein.

.The purpose is to restart all the old vein: if the new vein grafted takes hold, will work the old vein and knowing the olive, will soon issue new gems along the trunk.

the suckers and the vein are "debarked" so that their vascular changes come into contact

Vein graft - fixation with push pins and mastic

I used an elastic band from grafter to wrap the suckers at the base; it is very convenient and I use it as a agglomerating, but in this case was put to prevent the sprig emits gems in that stretch.

Il pollone viene mantenuto in posizione dalle puntine e tutto viene ricoperto con mastice cicatrizzante.

.. If all goes according to plan, it will be able to select and delete the grafted vein that is located on the edge, obtaining the plant as it was before, but active.

In practice it is as a 'graft by approximation but the point of attack is multiplied by the entire length of the vein.
It will take some time, but could recover the piece.
